Three programs, one mission: teach middle schoolers how to think like computer scientists — decompose a hard problem, design an algorithm, and reason about whether it is actually any good.
Spring trimester elective. Students learn Python, Linux, cryptography, algorithms, and AI agent concepts through a custom training simulator. Teacher-led with pre-scripted agent guidance.
Tues & Thurs →Friday after school program. Build robots, compete in ACSL challenges, and work on hardware projects. Open to all skill levels.
Fridays →The after school team is building a student-made AI assistant robot for the computer lab. Local LLM brain, face recognition, voice I/O, and eventually wheels.

The Bear Code is a computer science program at Tuxedo Park School for students in grades 6–9. The focus is algorithms: how to break a hard problem into steps, choose a sensible approach, and reason about whether it actually works. Students work through data types and control flow into searching, sorting, recursion, and the beginnings of complexity — on paper as well as on screen.
AI can now write syntax faster and more accurately than any of us, which is exactly why teaching syntax is no longer the point. What AI cannot do for a student is understand a problem well enough to judge which solution is the right one. That judgment — decomposition, logical reasoning, and critical thinking — is what we teach.
